With the first pick in the 2013 NFL Draft, the Kansas City Chiefs select….
That will be the main question on the table Thursday night, April 25th beginning at 8pm ET with the start of the NFL Draft. Kansas City receives the No.1 pick in the draft after finishing in a tie with Jacksonville for the worst record in the NFL last season.
We just got the release of the 2013 NFL schedule, so now it’s time to find out which players are going to which teams.
It’s obvious that the team with the No.1 pick has more than one need to address, and in the case of the Chiefs that is true. It’s not yet known the direction that Kansas City will move, though it is looking like left tackle Luke Joeckel from Texas A&M.
Odds are out on the 2013 NFL Draft at Bovada Sportsbook, though a wager on the No.1 overall pick is not available. What is available though is a wager on the rest of the top-five, in which bettors are given a pool of players to choose from with various odds.
Outside of those odds, individual player betting odds for their draft number are also available. These are for some of the more notable players in the draft such as Matt Barkley, Manti Te’o, Tyrann Mathieu, and others.
What appears to be quite clear though is that there will not be a quarterback taken with the first pick. The Chiefs are set with their quarterback by acqiring Alex Smith earlier this offseason. So another direction will be taken. Drafting an offensive tackle like Joeckel will certainly be a smart move, as that is a need. That would not only help Smith in the pocket, but also the run production of one of the best backs in football in Jamaal Charles.
After the Chiefs make their selection, the Jacksonville Jaguars will be on the clock.
With each draft, it’s always interesting to see teams try to move up and down the order to secure the players that they want.
We expect that to be the case again this year, though where it comes from we do not know. There are a ton of different possibilites that can take place on draft night in the NFL, which is one of the reasons that it is so exciting not only to fans for the league, but for players as well as they learn who their new teammates will be.
Only the 1st round of the 2013 NFL Draft will be conducted on Thursday, with the remaining rounds to continue on Friday and finish up on Saturday.
