Labor disputes are always going to occur in professional sports. Many reasons are behind these issues and for the most part both sides typically have valid arguments.
The CBA is what has led to the NHL issuing a lock for its players which is the second time this has occurred in eight years. Now hockey fans are left in limbo as to what will transpire leading up to the
start of the regular season.
Even though the NFL and its players were able to resolve matters a year ago, this year has brought about other changes in the league.
Replacement refs are now officiating NFL games due to the recent lockout of its regular officials and it’s bringing about a wide array of different opinions.
The fill-ins for the most part are doing an ok job. Of course there have been a few hickups, missed calls and comical moments with the officiating that are to be expected with the caliber of officiating that is being represented.
However, it is becoming very evident that the regulars need to be back on the field as soon as possible.
Professional football is a very important part of everyday life of not only the players, but fans as well. Having the best refs officiating games will only allow the NFL as a whole to be the best professional and most popular sport around.
There is so much at stake in games and the impact these replacements can have on the outcome of each contest is unprecedented.
To say that these replacements are a valid choice, well there really is no other option at this point. But it is safe to say that the qualifications of these officials are just not up to par with the regulars, therefore causing much controversy that for right now can’t be avoided.
Both sides need to come to an agreement and quick. Understanding the importance of the regular NFL referees and their impact on games needs to be quickly examined by the NFL. But more importantly acted on. We are already going into Week 3 of the NFL season with the strike still on.
