The Atlanta Falcons and the Houston Texans are two of the three remaining unbeaten teams in the NFL through four weeks of the season. Well, we still have the Monday Night game, but neither the Bears nor the Cowboys are without a loss. The third member of this unbeaten club are the Arizona Cardinals, and while they have looked good, it seems to be the Falcons and the Texans who are seen as the more legitimate contenders.
Let’s start with Atlanta, who won at home today over the Carolina Panthers 30-28, courtesy of a last-second field goal by Matt Bryant.
This was by far the most adversity that the Falcons had faced all season long, cruising to 3-0 up to this point. And frankly, it looks like the Falcons were going to drop to the Panthers, backed up inside their own five yard line before Matt Ryan orchestrated a drive, highlighted by a 50-yard completion to Roddy White.
But what’s really impressive about this team is that they expect to win, and the leadership on the tem showed that there was no panic in the eyes of Atlanta on the sideline. Ryan and offense is arguably the most balanced in the NFL.
What’s really helped though is the performance of the defense which ranks 7th in the NFL against the pass, a facet that needed to be improved upon.
The Falcons have done it in the regular season before though, and the talk will continue to focus on them getting it done in the playoffs.
For Houston, it was a 38-14 win over the Tennessee Titans. The Texans have shown little weakness this season, ranking fifth in the NFl in rushing and fourth in passing defense and 5th in rush defense, ranking No.1 in the NFL in total defense.
That’s pretty impressive.
The Texans look like a force to be reckoned with out of the AFC, but we will learn a lot more about this team in Weeks 6 and 7 in which they have back-to-back home games, first with Green Bay on Monday Night, then against Baltimore.
Houston has shot up the ladder to the top of the Super Bowl favorites, and doesn’t look like they have any intention of slowing down.
