Last weekend, there was a collective disappointment when it came to the overtime match up between the San Francisco 49ers and the St. Louis Rams, which ended in a tie. In Week 11 though, we had several games go the extra session to be decided, all of which were won in dramatic fashion.
In total, we saw three games go into overtime on Sunday, two of which were between teams that we far apart on the betting line.
Houston went into extra time with a one-win Jacksonville team and Dallas faced a loss in OT against a woeful Cleveland team.
Then in the NFC South, Tampa Bay went 60 minutes-plus with Carolina.
The road teams went 2-1 in overtime, with Dallas kicking the winning field goal for a 23-20 win over the Browns, avoiding what would have been an embarrassing and very costly defeat in terms of the Cowboys’ postseason hopes. Dallas pulls to 5-5 on the season, just one game behind the Giants in the NFC East.
Inexplicably, Houston, who had just one loss on the season and playing at home, found themselves in a dog fight with the Jaguars. The game went to overtime, and we were staring another tie in the face with just over two minutes remaining. But Matt Schaub connnected to Andre Johnson and addd to his nearly record-breaking 527-yard passing performance.
The Texans escaped with a win to move to 9-1 on the season.
Then we had a tough NFC south battle, with Tampa bay trying to keep their playoff aspirations alive. On the road, the Bucs needed a touchdown and a tow-point conversion with just seconds remaining for the tie. They got both. Then, on the first possession in overtime, Tampa Bay marched down the field, and Josh Freeman connected to tight end Dallas Clark for the game-winning touchdown. The Bucs also pull to 5-5 on the season.
It was definitely an exciting day of finishes for the NFL, with teams stepping up to keep their seasons alive.
