One of the big storylines going into Week 5 of the NFL season pertains to the New York Jets Monday Night Football matchup against the Houston Texans. Specifically, just how much of Tim Tebow will we see?
We all knew that it would probably get to this point. Mark Sanchez would struggle, have a couple of poor games in a row, and the murmurs that were in the background would move to the forefront.
That time is now, here in Week 5. The tipping point was last Sunday when the Jets lost 34-0 to the San Francisco 49ers, in which Tebow was on the field for just a handful of plays. And with the Texans next up on the schedule, arguably the best team in the NFL right now, things certainly are not easier.
As of now, it looks like Sanchez will be getting the start, but you have to think that his confidence is close to being shattered. After the success of the opening week, it’s been downhill since there. We can probably assume that Tebow will be getting on the field a bit more in this one.
But will is make a difference?
The likely answer is that it won’t make a difference this week. Houston is simply too good on both sides of the ball and rolling right now. The Texans are the Super Bowl favorites four weeks into the season, and have the best defense in the league.
So good luck to Rex Ryan, Tebow and Sanchez.
The good news for the Jets is that they saw the second-best defense in the NFL last week. The bad news there though is that they of course didn’t score a point.
On paper, the Jets really don’t have a chance against the Texans this week, and it would be rather wrong of us to assume otherwise and judge both quarterbacks on this one performance as to who they should go with the rest of the way.
But the Jets should definitely try to incorporate Tebow into the offensive packages more against the Texans, at the very least to keep them off balance and having to prepare for both quarterbacks which is never a fun thing during practice.
The nation will get to watch this game unfold though, as these two will square off on Monday Night Football at 8:30 pm ET in Week 5 with coverage on ESPN.
