If you are a sports bettor, you dream about a day like the one that Gino DiFelice of Canada had a couple of weeks ago. Though it almost didn’t come to pass. And once you hear this tale, you can only imagine the range of emotions that DiFelice went through.
In the source story as seen on ESPN.com, a 15-team parlay came down to the result of the infamous Green Bay/Seattle game from Monday Night Football in Week 3.
DiFelice won $725,274 off of a $5 15-team parlay, courtesy of the call made by the refs to give Seattle the controversial victory. Had the call been flipped giving the Packers the win, DiFelice would have won $0.
And here’s the best part, the winning ticket was thanks to the help of his 12-year-old daughter, Mia. DiFelice said he fills out three tickets many of the weeks during the football season. One he does all by himself, another he gets his 10-year-old son, and the final one is with the help of Mia making the picks. Mia’s ticket end up being the big winner.
DiFelice said that he knew he was 14-for-14 going into the Monday Night game.
If you may recall, the Seahawks trailed the Packers 12-7 in the final seconds of that Monday Night Football contest. Seattle quarterback Russell Wilson scrambled around until his players got down to the endzone, then heaved a desperation attempt, and with it the fate of the parlay for DiFelice. Packers cornerback M.D Jennings and Seattle receiver golden Tate each went up and it appeared Jennings came down with the ball. But the rule of simultaneous possession was enforced, and Seattle was awarded the touchdown. After a lengthy review process, that ruling was upheld and DiFelice’s parlay was graded a winner!
“I watched the last 1:48 and that’s about it,” he said “I couldn’t watch the rest of the game. I had the ticket sealed in an envelope and nobody knew until after the game until I told them.”
After the result was official, DiFelice said that he tore open the envelope with the winning ticket to share the news with everyone, being very careful with that ticket in the process.
