Week 5 of the 2013 NFL season looks like it will be a really good one heading into Sunday. We get a couple of great inter-conference showdowns, as well as some matchups that teams have to win in order to keep their season going.
Let’s take a look at some of the marquee matchups and notable games coming up on the slate.
We will start with the Seattle Seahawks visiting the Indianapolis Colts. Could this be a Super Bowl preview in Week 5? You know, it’s not a long shot to think that it could be. The Seahawks aren’t as good on the road as they are at home, but this is a team that can go anywhere and come out with a win. This atmosphere should be rocking at Lucas Oil Stadium for the Colts. Indianapolis sits at 3-1 already with a win over San Francisco is dominant fashion, just like Seattle did. This is 1 pm ET kick off on Sunday and should be a game to watch.
Other early action puts the undefeated New Orleans Saints in Soldier Field to take on the 3-1 Chicago Bears. Like Seattle, New Orleans is virtually unbeatable at home. But the mark of a true championship contender is the ability to go on the road and get a big win. That opportunity is in front of the Saints this week traveling up to Chicago where Jay Cutler and the Bears await. New Orleans quarterback Drew Brees is coming off of a great four-touchdown performance on Monday Night in a win over the formerly undefeated Miami Dolphins. With the defense playing well, the Saints are a trendy pick right now.
Also in the NFC North at 1 pm ET will be the Green Bay Packers hosting the Detroit Lions. This is a huge game for both. The Lions can move to 4-1 and 2.5 games in front of Green Bay. The Packers had off last week and are just 1-2 on the season so far. A win would pull them to .500 but a loss would be huge.
Then at night the prime time Sunday Night Football game puts the Houston Texans against the 49ers. The Texans should have won at home last week against Seattle but blew it big time. The emotional status of this team is not known, but it will have to get on track quick if they hope to go into San Francisco and get a win. This is a big matchup for both. San Francisco pulled back to 2-2 after two-straight losses. The 49ers have also had two extra days of rest to prepare after playing last Thursday night.
