Atlanta Falcons Winning In A Variety Of Ways

You don’t get to 6-0 without having some close calls in the NFL. The Atlanta Falcons are off to their best start in franchise history, but have shown that they are capable of winning football games through different means.

Entering the season, the talk of the Falcons surrounded their offense, and the potential for the potent passing game with receivers Roddy White and Julio Jones anchoring the receiving corps. And for the majority of the season, Atlanta has been able to rely heavily on that duo, as well as the other pieces including Tony Gonzalez, Michael Turner, Harry Douglas, and of course quarterback Matt Ryan. Odds Formed For 2012 Offensive Rookie Of The Year

Just like true freshman can have a big impact on the college game, we have seen more and more rookies come into the NFL and have an impact right away, especially at some of the skill positions. And coming into 2012, we already knew that there were going to be some high profile rookies coming in, particularly at the quarterback position.

The top-two picks in the draft were Andrew Luck to the Colts, and Robert Griffin III to the Redskins. The thing about these two rookies though is that they were coming in to start right away, there would be no sitting on the bench and learning. Continue reading

Cowboys Have Hands Full Coming Out Of Bye Week vs. Baltimore Ravens On Sunday

After a 34-18 loss to the Chicago Bears on Monday Night Football in week 4, a bye week was exactly what the doctor ordered for the Dallas Cowboys. Tony Romo tossed five interceptions, while Bears quarterback Jay Cutler went 18-for-24 for 274 yards and a pair of touchdowns. Losing like that doesn’t sit well with Cowboys owner Jerry Jones. If the Cowboys want to avoid a repeat this week, ball security must be the main focus, as Dallas goes on the road to face the 4-1 Baltimore Ravens.

Baltimore has no identity crisis, as what you see is what you will get from John Harbaugh’s squad. The Ravens have traditionally been known for a terrorizing defense, but the addition of a high-flying offense has the Baltimore faithful thinking Super Bowl in 2012. Continue reading

NFL Game Of The Week For Week 6: Packers at Texans

Two of the top favorites in the NFL preseason will matchup on Sunday night Football in prime time in Week 6. The Green Bay Packers will travel to Reliant Stadium to take on the Houston Texans.

So far though, it’s only been the Texans who have held up their end of the bargain, starting out 5-0 on the season.

Green Bay is a very surprising 2-3. Continue reading

Steelers Look To Pull Above .500 For First Time This Season Against Titans

The Pittsburgh Steelers got the win that they had to have this past Sunday, to avoid falling into a big early hole in the AFC North division. The Steelers got a narrow 16-14 win over the Philadelphia Eagles to pull to .500 on the season. It’s a short week though, as Pittsburgh will go on the road to match up with the Tennessee Titans on Thursday night in Week 6.

The Titans have just one win on the season, and have struggled mightily on the offensive side of the ball, in particular the run game. That is a bit surprising seeing as how they have Chris Johnson. But Johnson simply isn’t that 2,000-yard back he was a couple of seasons ago. Whether it’s a lack of effort, or a defensive game plan to stop him, Johnson simply isn’t getting it done. Tennessee ranks 3oth in the NFL in rushing. Continue reading

Houston Texans Atop Super Bowl Odds Through Week 5

The Houston Texans and the Atlanta Falcons are the last remaining undefeated teams in the NFL in 2012, as each won on Sunday to improve to 5-0 on the year. The Arizona Cardinals were unbeaten going into the week, but dropped on Thursday night to St. Louis.

To be honest though, not many expected the Cardinals to remain undefeated for much longer.

As for Atlanta and Houston though, these teams look pretty darn good on both sides of the ball. But when it comes to Vegas, Super Bowl Futures are favoring the Texans to go to New Orleans and come away with the win. Continue reading

Atlanta Falcons Remain Perfect On The Season And Hold Big NFC South Lead

The Atlanta Falcons are off to their best start in franchise history, starting 5-0 for the first time, following a 24-17 win on the road over the Washington Redskins.

Atlanta has had success on both sides of the ball this season, with a noticeable improvement coming on the defensive side. The Falcons have been able to take advantage of turnovers created by the defense and turn them into points, putting their opponents on their heels. Continue reading

How Much Will We See Tim Tebow For Jets Against The Texans?

One of the big storylines going into Week 5 of the NFL season pertains to the New York Jets Monday Night Football matchup against the Houston Texans. Specifically, just how much of Tim Tebow will we see?

We all knew that it would probably get to this point. Mark Sanchez would struggle, have a couple of poor games in a row, and the murmurs that were in the background would move to the forefront. Continue reading

Saints Still Looking For First Win Of 2012 Versus San Diego On Sunday Night Football

If Anyone Has Seen This Man, Please Call (504) 733-0255

For those who might underestimate the importance of coaching at the NFL level, one might not have to look any further than the New Orleans Saints. With head coach Sean Payton serving a yearlong suspension from the Bounty scandal, the Saints seem to be lost on the field, losing their first four games to start the 2012 season.

And, this isn’t exactly a team lacking in the talent department as they are just a few years removed from a Super Bowl title. QB Drew Brees has been on fire the last few seasons and even broke a quarter-century old record by Dan Marino for the most yards thrown in a single season. Continue reading

Vikings Look To Keep Hot Start Going In Week 5 Against Titans

Jake Locker is not expected to start on Sunday at Minnesota, meaning Matt Hasselbeck is back in the saddle at quarterback for the Titans. Hasselbeck, who lost the quarterback competition during training camp, did not look particularly sharp against the Texans on Sunday, but to his credit, no one has this season. On the bright side for the Titans, Chris Johnson finally eclipsed the 100-yard mark, rushing for over 140 yards against Houston. For the Vikings, the story has been defense. Sitting comfortably in first place in the NFC North, Minnesota ranks in the top 10 in three of the four major defensive categories, including up 18.0 points per game in 2012. Continue reading
