2013 NFL South Betting Odds, Preview And Picks

NFC SouthThe NFC West division might have the majority of the attention entering the 2013 NFL season, but the NFC South has the potential to rival it.

The Atlanta Falcons are a team that has been very consistent in winning over the course of the last several season, while the New Orleans Saints should bounce back from the disappointment of 2012 when they had to endure plenty of off-the-field distractions, not to mention the fact that their head coach Sean Payton was suspended for the entire season. Things are back to normal in the Saints locker room, which is good news for New Orleans fans.

As for the Carolina Panthers and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, they are the wild card here but have the potential to make moves up the ladder in the division to contend for a postseason spot. Continue reading

Top-5 NFL Quarterback Rankings Heading Into 2013 Season

Tom Brady And Peyton ManningRon Jaworski is continuing with his top-32 NFL quarterbacks countdown, but we thought we would skip ahead for the first 27 and just do our top-five quarterbacks in the NFL as we see it entering the 2013 season.

Going down the list, there is certainly clear separation between the top quarterbacks in the league, and the ones towards the bottom. In fact, it’s not really even close. It’s almost strange to think that though because one would assume that teams would be able to field better play at the quarterback position, with there only being 32 players in the worlds at the starting position. It’s clear that it’s not an easy position to play though, and these five quarterbacks below are the best in the NFL.

Beginning with No.5… Continue reading

Defensively this season, there are plenty of first year players who look like they could have a big impact on that side of the ball. Defensive players tend to get picked more in the first round than on offense, and that was true again in 2013. But of all the defensive players that come into the season as rookies, which one will have the best season?

BetOnline Sportsbook asked this very question, and formed betting lines for the Defensive Rookie Of The Year in the NFL for the 2013 season. Continue reading

NFL Darkhorses That May Make A Run In The 2013 Season

Calvin JohnsonWe are a little over two months from the start of the 2013 NFL regular season, but it’s never too early to look at the teams and make some predictions. This is the fun time of year when we are able to do that, based on what we think teams are going to do.

It’s easy to predict at the top of the list of Super Bowl favorites the usual suspects who will come in and contend for a title.

Teams like San Francisco, Denver, New England, and Green Bay. And then the second-tier just below that in Atlanta, Seattle, New Orleans, Houston and the New York Football Giants. But what about teams further on down the list where betting odds have set them well out of contention. Which of these teams, if any, will pull off the big surprise and make a run at the playoffs, and perhaps even a run at Super Bowl 48? Continue reading

Breaking Down The Denver Broncos And New England Patriots NFL Season Win Total Odds For 2013

Tom Brady And Peyton ManningBovada Sportsbook recently released win total betting lines for all 32 teams in the NFL for bettors to jump in on. Obviously with the season still roughly three months aways, it provides plenty of time to lay down a wager.

The win totals per team certainly vary, but there are two teams that stand out above the rest when looking at the highest over/under win mark for the year.

That would be the Denver Broncos and the New England Patriots.

Both the Broncos and Patriots have been installed at 11.5 wins on the betting lines. That means for a wager on the over total to win, at least 12 wins is needed. For a bet on the under, it’s 11 wins or fewer on the year. Continue reading

New England Patriots Sign Tim Tebow

Tebow To PatriotsWell, Tim Tebow has a new home.

It was reported on Monday that the New England Patriots have signed Tebow as a quarterback to come in the offseason and compete. Tebow will be back with Josh McDaniels, the former Denver Broncos head coach who drafted him in the first round. McDaniels has since fired from Denver, and is now back in the position of offensive coordinator with the Patriots, the position that he held prior to his stint with the Broncos.

Tebow will come in and try to cement his position as the backup quarterback behind Tom Brady. Currently in that position is Ryan Mallett. The move hopes to inspire some competition, and you can bet will get plenty of attention as New England prepares for the upcoming minicamps.

But really, when it comes to handling the media is there any team that does it better than the Patriots? Continue reading

Top Matchups To Watch In Week 1 Of The 2013 NFL Regular Season

Falcons vs SaintsWe are less than 100 days out from the start of the 2013 NFL regular season. Opening night gets going on Thursday, September 5th between the defending Super Bowl champion Baltimore Ravens and the Denver Broncos.

Obviously this matchup will be one of the top games of opening week. Here at NFLSeasonSchedules.com, we wanted to take a look at some of the other marquee showdowns for Week 1 of the season.

Here are some of the top games we are looking forward to.

Baltimore Ravens at Denver Broncos – Thurs. Sept 5th @ 8:30pm ET on NBC

It starts right at the beginning of the season in Week 1, with the champs going to Denver to match up with Peyton Manning and company. This will be Manning’s second season with the Broncos, and expectations are sky high. As for the Ravens, it will be interesting to see how they respond after an offseason that was highlighted with the Super Bowl win, as well as the players who are no longer with the team. There were certainly some big changes.

Atlanta Falcons at New Orleans Saints – Sun. Sept 8th @ 1pm ET on Fox

It will be a clash between the top-two teams in the NFC South as the Saints and Falcons matchup in Week 1. New Orleans will have head coach Sean Payton back after he served the season-long suspension from bounty gate. The Saints are going to try to forget about the 2012 season and move forward. As for Atlanta, it’s about taking that next step. They reached the NFC Championship and hosted it last season, but lost to San Francisco.

Green Bay Packers at San Francisco 49ers – Sun. Sept 8h @ 8:30pm ET on NBC

Two of the top-favorites in the NFC collide in Week 1 in primetime, with the defending NFC champion San Francisco 49ers hosting the Green Bay Packers. Two star quarterbacks will be on hand. For the 49ers’ Colin Kaepernick, he will try to back up a great performance in 2012 with another one in 2013 to prove that he is not a one-hit wonder. And we all know that Aaron Rodgers is pretty darn good. This is a playoff rematch, won by San Francisco.

Tim Tebow Or JaMarcus Russell? Which Player Is More Likely To Find A Home First?

Tim TebowJaMarcus Russell and Tim Tebow couldn’t have two more different images outside of the football field, and even when it comes to their work ethic in practice. For Tebow, he has always been known as the first to arrive, and the last to leave. That worker who is diligent in trying to improve. The opposite can be said for Russell, the former 2007 No.1 overall draft selection. Well, at least that’s how he used to be.

What these two quarterbacks have in common right now though, is that they are both seeking employment opportunities within the NFL.

Tebow was let go by the New York Jets last month, while Russell was released several years ago by the Oakland Raiders.

Both players come with a lot of baggage. Continue reading

San Francisco And Houston Awarded Super Bowl 50 And 51 By The NFL

49ers StadiumSan Francisco was awarded Super Bowl 50, while Houston received Super Bowl 51 in the decisions handed down by the NFL on Tuesday afternoon. It will definitely be a special night for the 50th edition of the Super Bowl, with the 49ers’ new stadium to be completed by that season.

The NFL has also gone back to the tradition of warmer climate cities for the time being, as next year’s Super Bowl will be played up north in East Rutherford, New Jersey in MetLife Stadium. The playing of Super Bowl XLIII will be the first time that an outside stadium up north will host the Super Bowl following the 2013 NFL Season. The 49th Super Bowl was already voted on a couple of years ago, and will be held in Phoenix.

The playing of this upcoming Super Bowl though could have one of the most significant impacts on the NFL that we’ve seen as it relates to the Super Bowl. Continue reading
