2013 NFL Draft Preview, Betting Odds, And More

2013 NFL DraftWith the first pick in the 2013 NFL Draft, the Kansas City Chiefs select….

That will be the main question on the table Thursday night, April 25th beginning at 8pm ET with the start of the NFL Draft. Kansas City receives the No.1 pick in the draft after finishing in a tie with Jacksonville for the worst record in the NFL last season.

We just got the release of the 2013 NFL schedule, so now it’s time to find out which players are going to which teams.

It’s obvious that the team with the No.1 pick has more than one need to address, and in the case of the Chiefs that is true. It’s not yet known the direction that Kansas City will move, though it is looking like left tackle Luke Joeckel from Texas A&M.

Odds are out on the 2013 NFL Draft at Bovada Sportsbook, though a wager on the No.1 overall pick is not available. What is available though is a wager on the rest of the top-five, in which bettors are given a pool of players to choose from with various odds. Continue reading

2013 NFL Schedule To Be Released On Thursday, April 18th

NFLThe NFL is in for a couple of big weeks in a row. Next week is the start of the 2013 NFL Draft, beginning on Thursday night April 25th for the first round. But a week prior, on Thursday April 18th, the NFL announced that they will be releasing the regular season schedule for next season.

The release of the upcoming NFL schedule is an annual event that fans look forward to every season, as they go down the calendar for the 17 weeks to see how their teams match up and predicting the wins and losses.

There is no set date for when the schedule is announced each year, but it is typically around this time in April. Original reports were that the schedule would be released on Tuesday, April 16th. However NFL PR Representative Greg Aiello announced via Twitter that the schedule will come out next Thursday at 8pm ET. Continue reading

Where Will Quarterback Geno Smith Land On 2013 NFL Draft Day?

Geno SmithEvery year about this time, the top collegiate quarterback prospects for the upcoming Draft in April are analyzed, and dissected to the tenth degree by teams, the media, and fans. Question of whether or not they will be that missing piece to lead their team to a Super Bowl championship, or at the very least back to being competitive, are at an all-time high.

That is especially true in the case of the 2013 quarterback draft class. In a word, the draft class on the whole has been labeled as such.

Weak.

But don’t tell West Virginia’s Geno Smith that. He could care less how the draft class on the whole is perceived. Smith is the only quarterback considered a first-round talent coming into the month of the draft, as he prepares for where he will be picked.

Quarterbacks are often taken higher than they should, and we could see that being the case in 2013, as teams will be desperate for a top talent. Continue reading

Free Agency Moves Shift 2014 Super Bowl Betting Odds Up And Down

Percy Harvin SeahawksDuring the last NFL offseason, we saw how one player can have a huge impact on a team, and instantly turn them into a contender. All you have to do is look at the Denver Broncos and what quarterback Peyton Manning was able to do.

And as free agency in the 2013 offseason opened earlier in March, there were certainly some big names on the open market likely to shift teams. Sure, there wasn’t a Peyton Manning per say, but teams were looking to fill needs and make a splash to build momentum for the upcoming season.

Just like fans pay close attention to what their favorite teams are doing, the same can be said for oddsmakers as well.

We have seen several teams shift their odds to win Super Bowl XLVIII because of some acquisitions and losses, whether the betting lines go up or down.

The Seattle Seahawks’ pick up of wide receiver and return specialist Percy Harvin moved their betting odds to win the 2014 Super Bowl from 12 to 1 to 10 to 1. They are a top-five favorite, and already had a bunch of people on their bandwagon at the end of the last season. The addition of Harvin will being in an explosive playmaker and another weapon that rising sophomore quarterback Russell Wilson can exploit.

The Seahawks’ rival in the NFC West, the defending NFC Champion San Francisco 49ers also made a big move by acquiring free agent receiver Anquan Boldin from the team that beat them in Super Bowl XLVII, the Baltimore Ravens. Boldin will be an excellent addition to an already fast improving 49ers receiving corps. But at the same time, San Francisco traded away quarterback Alex Smith, and did not resign free safety Dashon Goldson, who signed with Tampa Bay. The 49ers are leader on the latest 2014 Super Bowl Odds, set at 7 to 1.

Other teams to make a splash in the offseason were the Miami Dolphins, who signed receiver Mike Wallace from the Pittsburgh Steelers. They also brought in some defensive help, led by former Raven Dannell Ellerbe. Miami made the biggest jump in the Super Bowl betting lines, from 60 to 1 up to 35 to 1.

The Atlanta Falcons released running back Michael Turner and defensive end John Abraham. But then they signed free agent running back Steven Jackson from the Rams to come in and take over starting duties. Atlanta is a top-five Super Bowl favorite, set at 12 to 1.

Let’s not forget either that the 2013 NFL Draft is coming up at the end of April as well, where teams will again try to vill needs to be met. And 2012 was certainly a testament to the impact that rookies can have on the success of teams. Just ask Indianapolis, Washington, and of course Seattle.

The NFL Gets Its “Dream Game” Matchup For Super Bowl XLVII

Super Bowl XLVIIYou wanted it, you’ve got it. Check these out –  #HarBowl, all-Harbaugh Bowl, the Brother Bowl, and on and on and on. Welcome to the NFL’s “Dream Game,” as the Ravens and the 49ers will meet in New Orleans for the Super Bowl with two brothers squaring off as head coaches for the first time in NFL history.

Think you know Jim and John Harbaugh? Just wait until kickoff. You’ll know more about the Harbaugh family than you even know about your own families. Can you imagine Jack and Jackie Harbaugh’s (the parents) house right now? That poor couple Continue reading

Ray Lewis Stealing the Show in Baltimore?

Ray Lewis After Win Versus Denver BroncosWhen you hear the term “tenacious linebacker,” usually the first name that comes to mind in today’s day and age is Ray Lewis. Ray Lewis has defined hard hits and tenacity at the linebacker position for many, many years. We can all picture him chugging a large bottle of Dasani water, walking down the tunnel to the playing field, being introduced in front of thousands of fans, spitting that recently drank water back out in the form of a volcano erupting, and then breaking out in an absolutely insane dance as he runs onto the field during introductions. Ray Lewis is no stranger to attention – a lot of attention.

However as the 2012 season wore on, one name we weren’t hearing a lot of was Ray Lewis. That’s because the longtime NFL star was injured early in the year and wasn’t going to be returning until the postseason. For most around the NFL, the Ray Lewis chatter had gone mute Continue reading

Who Should the NFL Root For? Rating The Super Bowl Matchups & Odds

Super Bowl XLVIIThe NFL is without a doubt the most popular sport in the nation along with college football, and the ratings simply don’t lie. Even with lockouts, concussions and other storylines dominating the headlines over the last two years, the NFL continues to grow in numbers and continues to set ratings records almost on a weekly basis.

Why is that? For the most part it’s the storylines and the hype. If the Denver Broncos and the Indianapolis Colts had matched up in the postseason this year, the ratings would have been through the roof as Peyton Manning took on his former squad. But as we near the championship weekend, the NFL eyes will be on potential Super Bowl storylines and ratings busters. The question, however, is which Super Bowl matchup would create that? Deja Vu: An All-Harbaugh Super Bowl Possible Again…

Jim & John HarbaughThe NFL playoffs have reached the championship rounds and low and behold the two Harbaugh brothers are still standing for a second consecutive year. Jim Harbaugh’s 49ers will travel to Atlanta to take on the top-seeded Falcons, while John and the Ravens will see a familiar foe in the New England Patriots with a trip to the Super Bowl on the line. If you played a drinking game next week associated with the word “Harbaugh”, you’d be drunk by sunrise each day.

But that’s just next week. Wait until both brothers make it to the Super Bowl. The ESPN coverage for an all-Harbaugh Super Bowl would make even Tim Tebow jealous. Continue reading

Ravens Eyeing Payback In AFC Championship Game Against Patriots

Ravens vs Patriots 2012 AFC Title GameIt will be about a year ago to the day that the Baltimore Ravens take the same field that caused them such heartbreak and disappointment last season. Flashback to the AFC Championship game in 2012, and Baltimore will remember a game that they nearly had won, or at the very least, could have forced overtime.

But it was not to be, and as a result, the New England Patriots advanced to the Super Bowl, eventually losing to the New York Giants for the second time in four seasons.

If ever there were a stage set for payback, revenge, or whatever you want to call it, the Ravens have that chance this Sunday in the AFC Championship game.

Same time, same place, one year later.

Perhaps a little more seasoned, perhaps a little more experienced, the Ravens nonetheless were still not expected to get here. There season was supposed to end last week in Denver at Mile High Stadium. The only problem was that no one told them that. Continue reading
