You can’t tune into more than five minutes of Super Bowl coverage without one element consistently being brought up.
The weather.
But it’s a very critical element to the matchup between the Seattle Seahawks and Denver Broncos in Super Bowl 48. With the game being played outdoors in MetLife Stadium (home of the Giants/Jets) in February, it’s a cause for concern. But this is what the NFL signed up for. They knew that by doing this the game would be subject to the weather conditions throughout the week.
For the fans and those attending the game, it’s just about game day. But for the players, this will be affecting them all week long. Both teams arrived in New York over the weekend and will spend this week preparing at different sites. But the weather is already giving the coaching staffs fits. It’s not easy to implement a game plan against the best team from the other conference in snowy conditions.
The good news for both team is that they each reside in colder-weather cities. Both conference championship games were played in icy conditions last week.
The forecast for Super Bowl 48 seems to change like the wind. And why shouldn’t it. Whether or not there will be snow remains to be seen. The only thing that we know for sure is that it will be cold. The wind + precipitation are the variables. But they are very important variables.
Of the two teams, you’d have to think that Seattle would be the team that prefers bad conditions. Coming from Washington, a state renowned for bad weather, it would feel like home. And home is a spot that the Seahawks have flourished over the course of the last couple of seasons.
It also helps that Seattle relies on the running game more with Marshawn Lynch. Denver is able to run the ball at times, but is much more pass-oriented in their system.
It will be very entertaining to see how the weather shapes up. A Super Bowl in the snow would be fun for fans to watch on television. It probably wouldn’t be all that fun to be there.
