There were not too many surprises that we saw in Week 9 of the NFL Season. In fact, many of the teams who were favored to win, won.
That is highlighted by the Atlanta Falcons, who are just the 15th team since the NFL expanded to a 16-game schedule in 1878 to begin the season 8-0. Atlanta looks as solid as any team in the league, though there are certainly some on the heels despite the unblemished record.
Let’s take a look at the NFL power rankings we have going into Week 10 of the NFL season.
1. Atlanta Falcons
The Falcons just keep on winning, and that’s good enough for us to keep them up on the op of the list of the Power Rankings this week. The Falcons look very impressive on both sides of the ball, and quarterback Matt Ryan is probably at the front of the list of Most Valuable Player candidates this season at the halfway point.
2. Chicago Bears
The Bears had one slip up earlier this season against Green Bay, but other than that they have looked great. That defense is pretty scary, scoring eight touchdowns in eight games this year. I don’t care you you are, that is an impressive statistic. Chicago is just one game behind Atlanta for the best record in the NFL.
3. Pittsburgh Steelers
The Steelers jump up into the top-five this week, simply because of the fact that they went on the road and beat a team that we think is still a top-five team despite the loss, in the New York Giants. The Steelers even had their normal road trip schedule messed with, arriving just hours before kickoff.
4. New York Giants
In spite of the loss to the Steelers, the Giants fall only one spot from last week. When New York puts it together, they are arguably the best team in the league But it’s often times the dumb mistakes that get them. Yet somehow, in the clutch, there is no better team at this point and we think they will have something to say come the postseason.
5. Houston Texans
The Texans, like the Bears, had their only slip up at the hands of the Packers. Houston has the best record in the AFC, but they still come behind the Steelers in our power poll. This has nothing to do with the record, it’s simply the eye test. Pittsburgh is a battle-tested team, while we still want to find out more about the Texans despite them winning seven of eight games this season.
